Why is the Environment Agency so against cleaning, maintaining UK rivers??

Whilst poor Henry Ward does his nut as his farm is 10ft under water and the next door 'flood elevation scheme is empty. They are making no effort to repair the bank and he gets NO Compensation what's so ever,!! But Lincoln is safe.!! See Wardy's Waffle.

Henry has now found out, that despite being the most flooded farm in England, he doesn’t qualify for the new government flood compensation scheme, as the river that burst and flooded him, isn’t on the EA list of qualifying rivers !

It is getting no that's wrong it's got to a diabolical state of afears, no one can do any meaningful remedial work but it is ok to put billions of gallons of sewage into rivers lakes and the sea but you must not disturbe the life in the river bed but it is ok to kill almost all life on fields with flooding and if you get any permission to do river work you must put straw bales in the river to stop any silt going down the river but it is ok to let the river or streams take river banks and wash billions of tons of soil down the river which has taken thousands of years to create.

I've mentioned in several of these posts before. The Dutch civil engineering project called "Room for the River" The Dutch have a great can do attitude.

@Gerbert How do farmers take this?
It sounds like flim flam <rubbish> - but in fairness managing water is known better with you than almost anywhere else in the World. How is going down?

I am not really knowledgable on this but after a little research it seems that the whole project (or rather projects) was on state owned grounds along the rivers.

The situation for rivers is slightly different from yours as water tends to run down and we have a lot of countries upstream. Melted snow out of the ski sloped ends up in the sea through the Netherlands. So even if it is dry overhere, it might not be dry in germany and alot of their rain travels through our rivers.
Just imagine if all those low laying parts in britain where one country and the high laying parts was another country. The low laying country would be a lot more interested in getting rid of water then what they seem to be right now.
Like I said before, it is not a question of willingness, it is a question of necessity.

Like many public sector entities, the EA are in it for the easy life. Go to work, do as little as possible, get some good publicity here and there, looking after all the little beasties. Get taken out for a slap up meal now and then by the water company fat cats, so they can fly tip 5h1t in the rivers and top it all off with an early finish on friday.
And you forgot the fat cat bonuses and large staff salaries for preciding over a company that no longer fulfils the job of managing the rivers and environment.

Seems to me the EA are saying they have no money due to budget cuts to maintain rivers and they will not allow land owners to touch them either because (1) They want to prove a political point (2) They dont want it to be proved that landowners can do a better job and do it cheaper.

And (3), all the flooding caused by not clearing out the rivers handily fits the climate change scare mongering bullsh1te.
