Why is the Uk agricultural industry becoming almost “obsessed by carbon free farming”???

Man made climate change.
Does it matter if you believe in it or not, we are such a small spec in time that nature will destroy us before we destroy it and thrive like it has done for hundreds of millions of years. I think we should try and protect nature where possible but stopping a juggernaut like China going about its business is dreaming. Realistically how many hundred years will this planet actually sustain current populations. Answer is it won’t.

Do you not want to try to maintain a habitable environment for your kids? Grandkids?

Oh so because we aren't the biggest contributor, we shouldn't be bothering to reduce our emissions?
Not at all but there are much bigger polluters than agriculture. If everyone gave up beef and dairy we would reduce GHGs by 4%. Instead we would massively increase fossil fuels, release millions of tons of stored carbon, use more chemicals and lose thousands of tons of bare winter soil by growing veg and cereals on grassland.
Meanwhile Drax heads towards 'carbon neutrality' and earning over £1m per day in subsidies by using woodchip -imported from natural forests in USA by ship, dried out and processed there while just being fined $2.5m for air pollution. The science is completely mad.
My suckler cows are a mere blip in comparison.

We are reducing fuel use but if you were advising the government and saw an industry contributing 4% of pollution and providing food and another using far more for entertainment, for instance holidays abroad then which is really essential if we are in a true emergency. British Airways will probably be carbon neutral before me by opening their cheque book.
The verb we are looking for is to pauchle.

Slightly off topic, regarding green electricity providers.
As all electricity gets to our homes and businesses via the national grid and then via more localised electricity power lines , I think signing up to green electricity must be a “con”, as there are no separate cables for green electricity !!?? :banghead: :scratchhead::scratchhead:

Green electricity is especially designed for vegans and such like.
Maybe their supply should get cut off first when the wind doesn’t blow on a dark night.

Maybe because they already are and are waiting for the science to catch up.
UK ag 11 -15% of total GHGs. Livestock GHG 8%, sheep and cattle 4, almost all of which are methane calculations. Plants and veg 7%.
We will look back at this period as flawed science.
How can there ever be anything called "flawed science"???
Surely "science" is exact or if undecided merely an hypothesis till proven without premature conclusion?🤔

Flawed may not be the ideal word but science is never exact in a total sense because there will be another study next week involving a slightly different database showing a different result. Each one moves things along a bit or raises another question. Most studies say further research is needed ie. give me some more funding.

Covid jag best given twice 4 weeks apart now turning out that between 4 and 12 may be best.
Trimming sheeps' feet actually makes the problem worse.
Climate change is man made, turns out it.........let's not go there :)

My apologies. I thought that's what you were referring to when you said it was natural and we shouldn't fight it.
I didn't say we shouldn't fight it I posed a question,
Yes I did say it was natural because everything we do is natural or do you think you are not part of nature?

This thread proves what a complicated world we live in.
There is no simple answer.
Neither politics, science or TFF have the answer.
If you put any number of politicians, scientists and/or TFFers in a room you will get more definite answers that there are people in the room.
If you wait long enough people will disagree with themselves.
Sorry I can't be more helpful.
