Planning on replacing a sliding door with a roller shutter door. The shutter door will be fairly wide at 6meters. Does anyone have experience of wide roller doors. Any advice advise re strength of lathes, motor ( will be single phase) etc. Thanks in advance

6m square 3phase roller shutter with wind breaks here. It does the job but rattles in the wind. If I did it again I would go sliding as it does my head in working in there when windy. Sectional door would have been better and not rattle, but was more money.

I have 9 roller shutters between 5.5 and 6m wide. We are windy/exposed for Bedfordshire, and we have few problems
Must have the best windlock guides.
I also specify NO bolts within the guides, they need to be welded to a backing plate, and I ask how fast the motors work, 2 or my doors I have are painfully slow.

I have 2 6m × 6m insulated roller doors. The building is not insulated but I was advised to buy these doors because I hate rattling doors. From memory they were mag 95 doors, I have no idea what this means but they are perfectly silent. You can stand inside or outside the building with the door up a bit or fully closed and thump or kick them and you can't hear any rattle. They did cost a fortune though

Can't really remember but guessing 2500 - 3000 each delivered and fitted. They have remote control and a sensor in the bottom rubber to detect obstructions when closing

When it comes to wind resistance, the key factor is the wind rating of the shutters. High-quality agricultural industrial roller shutters are designed to withstand specific wind speeds, ensuring durability and stability even in harsh weather conditions. The wind rating varies depending on the product, so it's essential to choose shutters that are rated for the typical wind speeds in your area. For more detailed information, you might find our article on wind loading extremely helpful. It covers the basics of wind ratings and how to select the right shutters for your needs.

Regarding the issue of curtain rattling, this is a common concern with roller shutters in windy conditions. However, many modern roller shutters, especially those designed for agricultural use, are engineered to minimise this issue. Insulated roller shutters, for instance, often have tighter fittings and heavier curtains, which reduce noise and movement in the wind. The insulation material itself can act as a dampener, absorbing some of the vibrations caused by wind.

For a comprehensive guide on selecting the best roller shutters for agricultural buildings, including those with high wind ratings and reduced noise features, you might want to check out our link to agricultural industrial roller shutters and insulated roller shutters. These resources will give you a clearer idea of what to look for in a roller shutter to suit your specific farm building needs.

Hope this helps in making an informed decision for your farm building requirements!
