Widening gateway

At present the access to the field is from a single track road via a 3 meter galvanised gate.
With tractors and machinery getting ever larger I am looking to widen the gateway.
Am I likely to get hassle from the local planning dept ? over this.
Thanks

On a single track road it will be fine without planning, your on bother once you start crossing footpaths etc...

Only possible problem is if you get accused of putting a “new” gateway in.

If we had a footpath that comes out of the field on to a public highway, through a boundary hedge, would it be possible to put a 12ft gate out onto the road next to the footpath?

It would mean taking out about 15ft of hedge...

The footpath has a 8ft long foot bridge, because there is a ditch at the roadside (which could be piped in)

I think you'll find that there's and old gate grown into the hedge at the back.
Take pictures of it before you start.
Possibly take pics of gate now and again before you start in 12 months.
