After a bit of a balls up putting the fert on. I put 50 kg per acre of 24 4 14 on some grazing ground that would be low in p and k, now the old man is worried about staggers, should he be.

That's not a lot of N to apply but I don't know the ground around you. I wouldn't worry but if he's really worried you could offer grazing cattle a trough of free access high mag mineral to cover the risk for little cost.
