Long gone with all renewables .
Working flat out on renewables from single city units to farms to schools. Working 7 days a week. Renewables are in overdrive.

Today’s photo, 5 solar thermal panels

If you can make use of the energy then look at whatever will pay itself off fastest, there's a whole load of factors to consider for that so I wont bother.

If you are looking for a real return on investment, then a commercial scale energy project is still viable if you can get a good deal.

There is a lot of money out there for solar, as its seen as a very safe investment. If anyone is interested then drop me a PM and we can have a chat.

Tried to get into wind many years ago but it’s a closed market. There is a farmer just down the road from me that organises council planning applications and installation. After talking to him recently he told me there is still money in wind the issue is planning. He sells 500kW units.

Hard to see how the economics stack up for a 500kW turbine installation these days.
Would be interested in the figures he quotes when selling one of his turbines.....

I hope so, but how low can the cost of equipment go? Also, most installers already work on pretty slim margins so I doubt there's much can be trimmed out there.

I think you will see more companies installing systems for a cut of the revenue over the longer term. I agree with you that margins are too small as it is for the commercial scale installations.

I expect installers bank on the long term service and repair to maintain a good margin sacrificing the initial margin.

This is the only area I would be weary about that would take a lot of thought.

Then as a buyer you’d need to look at the offset. Is the long term service and repair going to neutralise an annual saving?

I think turbines would be good for operations that go 24hrs. Maybe dairy or potato farming but I would expect these to be large scale.

We just need to see if another type of ROC or similar is introduced to block the financial hole. Next 6 months will be interesting especially now drilling for shale is practically a non starter. Something has to be brought through...I think.

500Kw Turbines were only suitable for the original FIT Tariff boundries 100kw up to 500Kw Once that tarrif was made obsolete after the Fit review you really needed a 1.5Mw to stand any chance of financial viability.
Also the extra planning condition of consulting with local communities was the final nail in the coffin for onshore wind.
I would like to think one day the financials will stack up once again without subsidy for onshore wind but I don't think we are there yet

I think farm wind turbines were grossly oversold I considered one myself but instead invested in a small industrial estate of 8 units which turned out to be one of best things I’ve done, they are all fully let on leases with the tenants responsible for insuring and repairing. I use an agent so its a completely passive investment. It’s going on 8 years since I bought them and they will have paid for themselves in arround 4 years time after which it’s pure profit. The major advantage over a wind turbine is that I can sell anytime I like to recoup not only the original amount invested but also the amount it’s gone up by.
