In a rush to get office stuff done (wages and Bacs payments) before doing some real work - computer decided that was the time to do a 2.5hr update! No way to say not now please, do it later when I'm not so busy! Grrr.

You can change settings to prevent that happening again so it only updates outside of working hours set by you......or just downloads the updates and then waits til you manually allow it to upgrade.

It is set to that, but as it had been shut down for a couple of days it took the first opportunity on boot up to proceed1

I have altered the registry on some windows 10 machines to stop it doing auto updates and requires the user to set it going.
These machines ran boiler software 24/7 and they didn't want it auto rebooting and losing all the graphs.

You can google it. Auto updates followed by auto reboot is bloody annoying.

I haven't analysed why but when booting up it stops until F1 is pressed. Not a problem when sitting by it, but if you walk away and come back expecting it to have finished what ever it's doing only to find it hasn't moved on very far, very annoying.
Any explanation regarding the F1 issue would be gratefully received.

That sounds like a bios/uefi problem, the code that resides on the motherboard that ties it all together. Most likely the small battery on the motherboard is dying and the bios can't retain it's settings. Could try changing the battery, most likely a CR2032.

My PC updated so then my Kyocera printer didn't work, and computer would restart every time you tried. Big Grrr. Apparently no Kyocera or Ricoh printers worked until there was an update.

My Dymo "labelwriter and also my HP "Officejet "printer succumbed to the update . I cured the Dymo by rolling it's software back to a precious release . No such luck with the HP printer . I struggled as long as I could with no success , and eventually had to get my "tame" computer doctor in . It turned out that it was nothing whatsoever to do with W 10 update , it was a completely separate issue . How's that for synchronicity ? Apparently MS have released a quickie update that solves the problem . Does it?

Had similar with Dymo label printer here too but uninstalled the Windows update to fix it as they suggested. Just checked their website again and it appears they may have fixed the issue now with their latest software update.

I'm probably one of Brother's biggest fans as far as printers go , and I have a Brother label printer but they aren't in the same league as Dymo for labellers . You simply click on the relevant addresses , and they print immediately - no delays for them to warm up , or to to clean the printheads , they JFDI!.
