You could probably double that valuation.

Impressive to see, but you wouldn’t want the hp payments.o_O
It’s the way it’s gone and this is the last year I’m running my old style kit. For me beet prices haven’t had the necessary uplift to justify more investment in kit or to pay contractors so that’s the end of beet here. Probably very large scale can still turn a penny or two.

I think you’re right, I was slightly tongue in cheek with that post.

There are some good operators out there, who I’m sure can use a calculator.

50% of cereals. 170 ha of beet this year that is planned for spring barley although I had hoped to put wheat in given the chance, not even going to attempt that now. Also 120 ha winter beans to plant.
Weather looks better next week ( again )!

Still 900 acres to plant & no progress in the last 10 days. It has rained for 2 hours this morning which wasn't forecast. I doubt we will get anything done this weekend, including any of the remaining bean combining

AB15 - 100% looking good.
Rye - 100% and up.
Wheat - snatched the first 20% yesterday
I had hoped to get a really big day in today and get up to 60% by the time I my head hits the pillow tonight but overnight showers and a deteriorating forecast have pretty much made that wishful thinking. But really need to get the field I'm half way over finished as a minimum which would be about a third.

Yesterday was supposed to be dry but showers in the morning, today was supposed to be dry and the best day of the week when I went to bed, now possible showers all day. Grrrr.

edit. Must remember to remain thankful to be getting something in even if it’s not pretty and the soil is sticking to everything. Sorry to those who are having another horrible experience this autumn.

So far worse then last year here, 90% of the barley in, most of which went in well, 65% of the wheat, went in average conditions at best. No spraying done at all, borderline if i can even travel with the quad to put pellets on. Looking unlikely that we,ll get any more drilling done this year now unless we get a week of sun before november.

Simple poll , as I don’t believe certain surveys !

Speaking with a senior management friend from one of the Multi Nationals he was suggesting yesterday that only about 25% of the wheat area has been drilled across the UK. Having a handle on all regions I wouild suggest their view is as near to being right as any.

Interesting times......anyone looking to drilling spring beans and spring oats had better get their seed covered whether its in the barn or from a merchant as it will be like hens teeth. Im not suggesting there will be any pressure on spring barley seed supplies but we have lost a fairly large slug, and it was all we had of C2 Laureate through germination problems and 2 other merchants with two different spring barley varieties grown on the same farm lost theirs too. A local merchant to us here in Lincolnshire over yeared 30 tonnes of C2 KWS Irina in a bin with a 98% germ to find last week on re testing it had dropped to 20% !!! We ve tested all our on farm spring seed too date and have had to put lines through some spring oats, spring triticale and spring beans too. We will check those that had sataisfactory germinations again before the end of November to see if they are holding up or losing their germ.

I can see us having to import spring oat seed this spring and currently there is a £74 per tonne tariff on any spring oat seed we bring in from the EU after January 1st which when you add in a higher purchase price, an extra £100 per tonne to cover transsport into the UK and then re distribution costs from where its stored its important to get the best price by covering UK produced whilst its available.
