Winter crops for store lambs

We have had good weather early on and got alot of turnips In But as this rain has
come and stopped the combine rolling we still have still got around 50 acers of turnips supposed to go In ... Is it to late now to even bother ? even tho its on low lying sandy soil ?
what could I put In instead would just rape alone be worth it ?

There will be a lot of turnips to be drilled yet. Once you get into September their success will be determind by the weather.

I’ve got turnips to go in after Spring Barley, so will be into September. I’ve DD’ed turnips in early October before now, where it would have just been bare stubble otherwise. Given a mild winter, it’s surprising how much keep it will make by February/March, just don’t spend too much on it.

We've still got turnip blend too go in after spring barley. Will be drilled straight as straw comes off, rolled and 50kg N then left till February. Usually works! Last year was the first blank we got!
