Winter thoughts

Though I don't believe in 'global warming' I do think we are entering a period of climate change which will mean more extremes, so having had a fairly hot dry summer I expect another cold winter, like the last one or worse.

MetJeff has released his winter forecast, makes intereting reading and I suspect almost everyone will hope he is wrong.

To be fair to him, his last winter and summer forecast was pretty good in my opinion, he got the overall picture pretty much spot on

What do others think we will get this winter?
If this turns out to be anything like true, best to sell all the livestock, then the forage through winter.

It's all half chance guessing! None of them know!

Exactly right!

i keep hearing of this "norweigan weather report" that locals are swearing by... not come across it myself - i tend towards martin weatherweb chaps stuff.

It's called yr.no and is pretty good, they do a ten day prediction - this is usually right the first time it's given, then they change it a bit and, finally go back to the original. Very good local level and wind is always spot on; add a decent sat' view from another site and it works well.

True, but its good to get others opinion, and i would like to think that professional forecasters have a better chance of getting it right than me.

Predicting Uk weather more than 7 days in advance is difficult, but its the underlying theme i am looking at in long term forecasts, and the prediction here is for a generaly cold second half to the winter, similar in someway to this years.

Given MetJeffs recent form I will keep his forecast in mind when planning works over next few months. His summer prediction certainly helped me this year, and the long dry period allowed substantial restoration works to take place at the quarry
