wiring a soft start

I got a soft start for a table saw i have which has a rather violent start. Its an ordinary 240V, single phase, 2 wire, brushed univeral motor on the table saw.

This is the softstart that arrived. How do I wire it ? Have they sent me the wrong part I wonder. The drawing shows the 3 wires attached to the motor, which is confusing me

I do not think that is for a mains motor. All the soft starts I have found are for 3 phase mains motors. Perhaps it is for a 12 or 24v DC motor? Do you have any info from the suppliers, or is there a part number you can Google for an data sheet?
If I was going to soft start a universal motor I would use a variable resistor, and reduce the resistance as it started up.

A Universal motor has just 2 connections and this soft start is a simple 2 stage (no ramp). Probably has a diode to give half-wave drop to start before a timer kicks in. Blue wire has a piggy-back for brown, what could possibly go wrong?

Hi Aidan,

One year later and I am in the same situation: ordered the JRR-01 module and got a CX-SS 24A box.
Apparently, vendors sell them as interchangeable.

Did the CX-SS worked for you?
Have you done the wiring as shown in the box diagram ?

Best regards
