Wonderdog a bit off colour.

Aye-up,

Barley The WonderDog isn’t her usual superhero self.

She’s eating bits and bobs, still wagging her tail, still wants to go for walks and still drinking. To look at her you would think she’s fine if you didn’t know her well.

But she’s a bit sick occasionally, bit loose occasionally and generally off her food. She’s restless at night too.

My wife took her to the vets on Saturday, they had no real answer but of course gave her a jab and charged us a fortune. No real change.

I’m guessing she’s picked up a bug somewhere. If she had eaten something a bit ripe I would think it would have gone through by now.

Any thoughts?

Cheers, Pete

A bit random but could she beginning an allergy to gluten in her food. The old sheepdog here had to have grain free dog food for the last 5 years of his life. He developed similar symptoms to Barley - occasional vomiting and loose and not quite himself. He went onto plain boiled rice and cheap supermarket chicken for 10 days and there was a big improvement. Lived on Gelert grain free for the rest of his life.

Go to your local abattoir, explain the situation, and beg them to sell you some mesentary from a cow's gut. I forget what the butchers call it but it is the thin veil of fat that sarounds the intestines. Failing, that, green unwashed cattle tripe is good fed raw. My maxim is "When in doubt, follow Nature". Dogs have off days like the rest of us. Let her eat what she wants (including what disgusts us!), have a nice warm draught-free bed, and peace and quiet. Nature is pretty good at curing most things.
