Anyone switched from shavings to this?, have just finished a crop using it and seems pretty good for reducing podo and hock marks, slightly more expensive than shavings but dosen't need as much topping up.

Its supplied spread, when you see it on the floor you have to wonder how the hell it will be any use but im on my 3rd crop on it and like it a lot. Very easy cleaned out and comes off the floor very easily when washing.

We get it in tote bags but the supplier spreads it, our houses are all 200x48 and it takes 2 ton per house costing £150 per ton. You wouldnt be able to lift it in bales id say its very heavy and when its spread on the floor its only a few mm deep. It is really good for podo but we are having bother keeping hock marking down but guys on shavings are the same so has to be a nutrition issue.

Hi John
Thanks, is that 200x48 feet or metres? it doesn't sound very much to cover 200x48 metres.
Have you ever considered adding biochar to your bedding. It apparently reduces hock burn as well as ammonia odours in poultry creating stronger more healthy flock. Not yet tried with a grower but have some which I may add if I can find a poultry producer locally who is willing to give it a try

Hi woodworm
200x48 ft,, never heard of anyone using biochar but i would give anything a go to reduce hock burns, do you think it would be freely available across the country?? what kinda quantity do you think would be needed among the woodpellet?

Shame we are not closer, would like to work with someone like you who is happy to try a new product.
It has been suggested that between 2% and 5% by volume is effective but have not undertaken any trials yet,
I have access to small amounts which could possibly be increased if required. We have a plant in which we can mix the biochar with our new bedding product if demand required it.

So what form does your new bedding take? is it a crumb?
