Wood pellet storage

Hi
At present we have a bag store next to the boiler which holds @ 4 ton pellets
This is all in the end bay of the workshop portal frame building, which has a floor creating a second level.
What we are wanting to do is build a second plywood store upstairs above the original bag so that we can at least double our capacity, saving @ £40 per ton because of larger deliveries.

The thought was to cut a hole in the floor above the bag and fill the top store allowing the bag to fill by gravity, which will eventually result in both being full.

Now the question is
The bag is rated at a max 5.5ton
We intend to increase capacity to @ 12ton
So how big a hole would I safely be able to cut in the floor above without overloading the bag below??
Bag is @ 3m square

Cheers

just cutting a hole in a flat floor will not get many pellets out. you will need to have sloped sides or if you are going to leave the floor flat for max capacity an angle drive operating a set of sweep arms and an auger. you will not overload the bag as long as the feed from top to bottom is kept at a steady pace and the drop tube is not too large, if you can get the capacity you want from sloped sides then it will operate like a chicken feeder, when there is space in the bag the pellets will automatically feed down. make sure you have a shutter for the upper store to stop pellets feeding.
