..mind you, when a fleece like this...
View attachment 962933.........8kg, is worth 40p, even a staunch supporter of the BWMB or British Wool or whatever they've re-branded themselves as now (just wondering how much that little exercise has cost us too ) like me is starting to think something needs shaking up at Bradford

FFS, our Herdwick wool is worth more per kg than our Lincoln wool......

I think I need to talk to my Board Member
I was thinking the same when I read the payment schedule. What makes lustre so worthless? Is it corse or a weak fiber?

It has a lot more lanolin in so takes more washing, don't know whether that has anything to do with it :scratchhead:
It's very strong and hard wearing - maybe it's too strong for modern times :scratchhead:

which will be worth more when palm oil is banned or taxed
Having been round one of the scouring plants in Bradford, I was shocked to find that all UK lanolin is deemed lower quality and is sold to somewhere in the Caribbean to prawn farms. They use it to feed growing prawns because it is very high in protein.

We then import 'superior' lanolin from NZ and Australia :banghead:

How many 8 ton lots of lincoln wool do you think are produced in UK each year?

One. At 8 kgs a fleece they only need 1000 to make up a lot. If there isn't 1000 Lincoln's in the country, they only need 500 and two years supply. 😉
There's only about 600 registered ewes. A lot are in very small flocks that will process and hand spin their own few fleeces.

We have a couple of sheets a year that will be about 140kg each. There'll maybe be 6 or 7 of us that send a total of about 2 tonnes a year to Stamford. With other bits and pieces, I'd say they'll only get 3 tonnes a year.
