I was wondering exactly that! What do you have to do to turn wool into house insulation ? What’s the process ?
A farmer produces the wool to a high quality then it goes on the the wool board to market it . I’m happy to swap jobs with management and take there wage and have a go if they take on my job and wage .
Are you sure your not on the WMB ?

I had to laugh when some were saying they going to burn Cheviot wool and allInteresting debate, what's the average price for wool this year?

You're obviously happy with the returns from wool ...30min fastwash cycle in the washer be enough to get the grease out first?
How many loads do you think to do 2t?
Wool marketing board should be got rid of.The fact wool is worth nothing means its not doing a very good job marketing.Everyone who sells wool products is getting a margin except the farmer.Im burning mine this year everyone should do the same when theres no wool for sale prices will rise farmers on here seem happy to supply raw material to other buisnesses for free. They got us" over a barrel ", and all their bosses know it.
They don't take a cut in their wages when wool drops do they???

To a certain extent yes you are right about the bitching but marketing ( and I use that term very loosely in the context of the wool board ) is a skilled profession and should be done by professionals and not farmers and subsequently they should be rewarded accordingly. However In any other industry the success of the marketing would be linked to sales of the product. In the case of the wool board, auctioning it off to the highest bidder is not marketing, it is merely selling a bulk commodity at what they can get, so where is their incentive to do better? So it's just a case of bitch and moan they're not doing their job... but suggest that person could get involved and make a difference (if they think it's that easy)
"Oh it's not my job"...?
Only insignificant because of the wool you grow by choice
SFA I think is the technical termInteresting debate, what's the average price for wool this year?
Who gives a fo0k about the worldwide market , this is British wool sold in Britain ,How much do you think the worldwide market would rise if the U.K. stopped supplying wool? Start by looking up what percentage of sheep in the world are in the U.K.

That's even worse . shambles .You can restrict your customer base if you want, but the majority of buyers aren’t U.K. based.

Although they seem to be slowly streamlining their operation as wool returns fall and competition from other buyers start to take effect, why are they so top heavy with staff, why are farmer representatives even needed, let alone paid?
Your final point is very valid though, I pay no attention to wool quality and therefore expect it to be sold merely as a bulk commodity but I dont expect every man and his dog having a finger in my already small wool cheque. Pile it high and sell it cheap if that’s its value but don’t try and Kidd me that it is being marketed on my behalf.

It’s going up according to bwmb I ring them a week ago to ask about my payment and she was confident about the prices improving I believe they already have. We're a little way off shearing here due to cold wet weather. I'm trying to decide what to do with our wool this season. Is it worth any more than last year? Is it even worth sending in?
