Working dogs

Haven't had much to do with working collies but been offered a 7 year old fully trained or a 2 year old part trained. At least the older dog can go straight to work
if the one is only part-trained have you got enough work/experience to finish it?,sounds like the older one would do your job then have a pup next year to bring on steady

If some one was selling a fully trained 7 yr old, I'd be weary how good it actually is, if he was any good, surely they'd keep him them selves, unless retiring or so on.

His ISDS birth certificate has his age as 7 next month. They have 3 dogs to go as they are reducing the amount of work and have too many dogs, have seen video as well.
 
I regularly get dogs around 7 years old. A good kennel with a warm bed and keep them fit but not over worked and most make to a good age. The oldest I had backed till she was 14, worked till 16 and lived to 18 and then only died in an accident. The biggest problem with taking on dogs like that is they become your mate and then live for ages and cost a fortune as old mates.
