With all the quality coal still in South Wales, surely a way could be found to burn it in power stations cleanly in this day and age. Though tree planting seems to be the way forward.

The Nice Mr Dripford decommissioned our last coal fired power station at Aberthaw that had all the millions of pounds worth of clean air filters etc etc that they were capable of burning used tyres in apparently?

Like a lot of farms in South Wales, my son in law has, according to NCB, over three million tons of coal not too far under the surface. The seam comes to the surface in one place. I keep telling him that one day coal will be able to be burnt cleanly and they'll want it.

My winter coal was £600/t. Came from Columbia. Asked if I could get some from the UK but the only stuff is for steam trains it seems. Good coal though. Got enough to keep the smoke belching for a good few years.

Back in summer ,there was dozens of bulk carriers loaded with columbian house coal anchored off the Humber estuary ,waiting to dock at Immingham ,all ordered by the government to stockpile at Drax incase there might be power cuts .

Bought a few bags of anthracite ovals, just to keep the stove ticking over during the day, but guess it’s the bituminous stuff the gov’t don’t like us peasants using! Do like like the smell of coal smoke on the wind, I find it weirdly comforting

Global coal demand is set to increase only marginally in 2022 but enough to push it to an all-time high amid the energy crisis, according to a new IEA report, which forecasts the world’s coal consumption will remain at similar levels in the following years in the absence of stronger efforts to accelerate the transition to clean energy.
The world’s three largest coal producers – China, India and Indonesia – will all hit production records in 2022. However, the report notes that despite high prices and comfortable margins for coal producers, there is no sign of surging investment in export-driven coal projects. This reflects caution among investors and mining companies about the medium- and longer-term prospects for coal.
Coal demand is forecast to fall in advanced economies in the coming years as renewables increasingly displace it for electricity generation. However, emerging and developing economies in Asia are set to increase coal use to help power their economic growth, even as they add more renewables. Developments in China, the world’s largest coal consumer, will have the biggest impact on global coal demand in the coming years, but India will also be significant.
