Would a JD814 header fit on a JD1085 Combine?

i presently have a 100 (I think) series 18 foot header on my JD1085.

Would be it worth upgrading to a 814 header? Would it handle beans and OSR better than my 100 series header? Is the auger bigger? Is the knife further forward? Will it fit?

The width would only just clear my tyres at 14 feet, but sometime the 18' header does overload the elderly 1085 particularly when chopping a lot of straw.

Any knowledge welcome.

When I bought this combine about 15 years ago, the bed floor tin was badly damaged and rusted through in places. I replaced the sheet metal and kept it good and shiny, but if I'd realised that the 800 series were so much better I wouldn't have bothered and would have just looked out for a secondhand 800 series. My 1000 series bed auger is also slightly bananad, not bent here, but it had obviously seem seen some action with the previous owner, though how anybody manages to bend a bed auger is beyond me.

The 1000 series bed goes acceptably well in cereals if you keep the knife sharp but I find the auger isn't big enough diameter to pull rape in, and it sometimes tends to push it in front, same with beans.

As good 816 headsrs seem like hens teeth I think I will just have to persevere with the 1000 series. Knowing my luck if I did find a decent bed the engine would blow next. Not convinced the overheating problem has entirely gone away though I have tried just about everything short of an engine rebuild.

14 foot on a 1085 you might have to go plenty quick enough to get enough crop throughput. 816 would be perfect if you are chopping

2 feet off 16 feet is 12%, so not a big difference in forward speed required. And if I go faster I might keep more seed in the front??!!

I could just about nip down the road with a 14 footer but with 16 foot no chance.

Nah. Leave it.
