writing off harvest '13

Well this was ploughed 2 weeks ago (pic taken Tuesday 19th) waiting for Linseed and has dried a bit..however that might change by Sunday. Take it as it comes I guess,can`t do much else!

True there is still time for barley to go in but we are missing out on growing season and solar radiation interception time.
Rambling cut short even if we get something in the yield potential has been dramatically cut. Soil temperatures are another huge problem.
Think I farm not too far away from Neddy and harvest 13 really is looking like a non starter

Don't think that we've had much solar radiation in the last 18 months! All depends what sort of summer we get. Could be sunny now until October. We've got loads to do, but will get it in somehow. If all else fails there will be something to cut for silage.

When it does warm up,will crops grow slowly,allowing us to get on top of weeds ect,or will they shoot through growth stages?

Crops respond to day length not temperature. Flag leaf emergence doesn't vary by more than a week or so each year & harvest will only vary by a couple of days (if it stops raining by then). Expect lots of lush growth as plants rush through growth stages trying to catch up.

Be aware that soft leaf tissue will be more susceptible to scorch in hot tank mixes with trace elements and/or multiple chemicals in.

2days of wet snow

Thankfully seed in the bag still my agronomist has seed good spring yealds from may planting if the weather cooperates.
The grain price is high enough to plant a crop because the alternative is to spend the time planting a cover crop which will cost a good part of the establishment of a spring planted combine able crop

If the weeds are bad after planting then I will Spray off then in June

Wheat planted after a crop will be better than after a summer fallow the question is how many acres of linseed can I combine in the autumn
4 hot days in September would do over 600 acres if plenty of people give up on crops this spring then I will be able to get a few combine in the help
