WTO tariff rate on UK lamb exports

Quick starter for 10 for all those Brexit farming genuises who voted 'leave' - what is the tariff on our lamb exports, if we cannot secure an intra-EU deal?

Is it:

(a) 2%

(b) 5%

(c) 40%

Answer: if you didn't already know it was 40% (and you didn't, did you?) then why did you think you knew enough to express a sensible opinion on what was best for UK farming?

Bright future my arse...

Not every UK farmer exports sheep. Those who do not might not have considered the impact on sheep exports.

My vote to leave had nothing to do with the export of any agricultural products, just the fact that I have been opposed to the ever closer economic and political union of member states of the then EEC since before the UK joined. I will be returning to the UK when I have had enough of farming around the world. I also have two very young grandchildren and I believe (yes, believe) their future is better if the UK is not part of the EU. Consequently I thought, and still think, I knew enough to express my eminently sensible opinion on voting to leave the EU. If opinion polls are to be believed, then about 80% of UK farmers, who one would presume voted on the basis of what was best for UK farming, agreed with me that it was best to vote Leave.

Since you are in a 20% minority, why do you think you knew enough to express a sensible opinion when four times as many farmers disagreed with those who thought the same as you?

Your own avatar shows cattle, not sheep, but I presume you also have sheep. How about selling lamb to the USA on a non-tariff basis? Australia does it. Their sheep numbers have been falling in recent years, as has NZ. A great opportunity for all UK sheep farmers. Forget about Obama's "back of the queue" statement. He claimed recently that he never said it, and anyway he is out before next season's lambs are available.

General consensus on here is that the future is very bright for lawyers.
Why a man of your oft quoted abilities is worried about a few quid on a few scanky woolley maggots that you might have surplus that have to be dumped on the world market is beyond me.
Hope your in good health.

It has been a while since I since I have seen you posting. The last time was when you made some quite disgraceful comments over foot and mouth disease.

It appears that you have learnt nothing in your absence. The first of your posts that I have noticed since you return is insulting to the majority of farmers.

It appears you are still suffering from your own version of foot and mouth disease and you really should get it seen to before you go too far again.

Not insulting me, he is just stating a fact. But I suspect a deal reasonable can be done as the EU is very deficient in sheep meat, unless the the NZ negotiating team do a deal and tip it in their favour. Who knows.:scratchhead:

What it is about Brexiteers that hate the truth put in front of their face. You canbe certain that Agriculture is the last thing in the minds of our negotiators dealing with Brussels.
The first , second, third , right through till last, will be protecting the city of London and we will be taking every car that the Germans can send us in return.
The countryside campaigners have already upped the anti in persauding the public that UK agriculture is the destroyer of the planet and we should convert our fields to a wildlfe/ dog walkers heaven

Got it in one there. It's absolutely amazing to read the amount of posts on here, proposing and indeed almost boasting about trade deals left right and centre which will see
British ag product exported all over the world and eye watering tariff levels.
People need to get it in their heads, that the british government will give agriculture absolutely ZERO attention in any unfolding trade deals. ZERO. ZERO.
There is NO political capital to be gained. None. The votes of farmers and the rural communities are of absolutely no consequence when it comes down to getting
one's seat in Westminster. .
It's politics guys, politics. In the end politics is a NUMBERS game. NUMBERS!!!
Watch the numbers guys. It's all a numbers game.
The numbers protecting, UK from domestic UK politics are not good with UK outside EU.
The protection it gets today is an EU protection, which is much loathed by Westminster!!

What is it about remainian farmers that they can't wake up and smell the coffee?
Farming ain't the be all and end all of everything.
I'm sure the brexiteers are well aware that they have to adapt and adopt new principles.

No very true but I do have kids to feed and loans to pay I'd like to be able to carry on doing this.
I note when I said the sheep industry was at risk pre vote leavers denied it.

They now say look for another business.

The same line will be trotted out when the city leaves.

When the car factories leave.

When the investors leave.

When the young and well educated leave they will say good riddance.

Leave will never take responsibility for anything.

They will not rest until their dream of a North Korea style UK is fulfilled all the while blaming someone else.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean it's not as if the bankers in Canary Wharf aren't lining up to give up their jobs and bonuses all in the name of getting their country back. Make no mistake about it, the city bankers and the Westminster politicos are to a man of one resolve. They will look beyond their own personal interest for the greater good.

Very least the farmers of UK should do. Very least.

Get in a line there guys ......

Know any city bankers local to you do you?
Do they commute from your village daily?
Do they spend any of their big bucks local to you?
You really don't have a clue where all the young kids driving the trading, banking and city come from... do you?
All you know is the shite you pick from the media that suits the shite you spout.
If I have to lean on my gate and chew a straw whilst they earn the wealth for the country and the plebs eat Frey Bentos corned beef as a staple diet.....that suits me just fine.
