Yamaha 700 or Honda 500

Looked at a brand new Can Am outlander 570 in green with steel wheels at a local dealer, original dealer still has the Kodiak 700 SE both very nice but not sure I want to spend my full budget on a new one but it's very difficult to find anything used in good order without tons of careless damage, outstanding finance, missing service records or just general a bit dodgy.

Really lost as what to do.

What i've learned is you can't really negotiate the price down on Yamaha, new or used when buying from dealer. On Polaris and Can-Am though you'll easily get 2-3 grands off of top spec models, placing them pretty near the barebones model with an optional power steering. In my case, the all bells and whistles Sportsman Hunter Edition was 200€ more than the barebones Eps version. Both after haggling.

Personaly would go yamaha out of those 2. If you can afford new get it, of looked after and you dont put alot of miles on will still be worth a fair amount. Can am wont have the re sale value of yamaha

I looked into can ams years ago but didn’t like the one I demoed

was tempted by the idea of a 570 remapped to 70hp with the speed limiter removed once tho

Just had a go with the new Honda 520 auto which was surprisingly smooth and I liked it but on enquiry can’t get one until well into next year, wouldn’t give me a firm price as was expecting price rises but said £8250 now ( with wide tyres), and wouldn’t be able to value mine until then.
So as we have now got ours fixed now decided to change it and keep them in them in the warranty period and stick with Yamaha as dealer has one in stock and is considerably cheaper than a Honda.

Just today rode a Polaris 570 for the first time, definitely not going used so need to choose from what's available Yam Kodiak 700 or Polaris 570 ready for delivery next week.
Decisions Decisions.

Yamaha would be my pick, if the price difference isn't that big (but it probably is).

Polaris have a poor rep around here for their bikes, ranger is more popular though.
My Sportsman has served me well, but i still don't rate it as good. When you need parts, they aren't there. Been waiting for parts for 3 weeks now. Polaris dealer started selling Segway quads, wonder what they're like. Probably a Polaris engine in them.

Your not alone waited 3 weeks for a gear linkage for my yam only to fond it needed a neutral switch all along😪

Tbf my parts are a bit special. Customer managed to drive the quad into a large forest ditch. Handlebars bent, steering axle bent, track rod bent, lower link arm bent, front bumper bent etc.

Maybe i should test out the Segway.

For those speed freaks about ten pages back hope you have road legal bikes because the tyres on a standard bike are not up to those speeds be careful.
Atleast i have. Tyres specced for 100km/h. Not that any of our quads nowadays will do it (old Polaris 570 could almost, because it had no electrical limiter). :scratchhead:

Personally I’d be concerned about other things than tyres if attempting to do daft speeds on a quad. Quite apart from having to stop or swerve suddenly, you’d only have to hit a rock/branch to flip one at those speeds.

No such things on tarmac though. They're pretty steady at 90km/h if you have power steering. Abs models can legally do 80km/h and even non abs models stop really fast.

It's great fun going flat out everywhere, perfecting your drifting and power slides, but when something goes wrong it usually goes VERY wrong. Been there ,done that, bought the tshirts ☹️
