Yellow rust on Reflection wheat

Just walked our Reflection wheat and found quite a bit of yellow rust in it.
Has anyone else seen it. Agronomist says we should spray it.
What are your thoughts?
A promising new variety that has broken down to yellow rust so quickly.

Leave it until T0 then treat with a triazole/CTL blend like Cherokee. It's not serious at this time of year.

I had yellow rust in Lili over the winter which has a good resistance score. The frosts have kept it down.

Keep an eye on it. TAG were doing free lab analysis of Y Rust infections looking for the new strains of the disease - I don't know if this is still running.

Treat it with low rate teb, if T0 gets delayed you will have a problem on your hands. you can always use a lower rate triazole then at T0

I don't think Reflection has broken down, but I may be wrong, but Yellow Rust was the weakest aspect to its characteristics. If you are in an area where it is known to be a problem then you should be looking out for it just in case.

The resistance scores published for all varieties, are the summer plant resistance. The plant resistance when smaller and in the winter can be completely different. A few years ago I was seeing a lot of disease on a variety which was supposed to have high resistance. For a minute I thought the wrong variety had been drilled. I checked with the breeder, and they confirmed that early resistance is different to mature plant resistance.

At this time of year, I don't suspect a bit of disease will be too much of a problem. Temperatures are still quite low, so development will be slow, and unless the whole plant is covered, it can probably all wait until T0 time. The disease may have died back at this time from frosts, or if not, apply a cheap azole/CTL mix.

The whole seedling vs adult plant resistance not to mention major gene (single point) and minor (multi point) gene interaction can make the rather simplistic ADHB rating rather confusing, unless you grow Oakley then it's pretty simple:eek:

Always used to be said that the winter clothes came off in spring and until then sit on your hands. The early winter leaves are hanging around a lot longer than the spring ones so it's not surprising there is a lot of disease in them with the mild winter.
With wheat at £100 tonne leave alone forecast is cold for all march and first half April so that best thing to do is go for a long holiday.
