Yorkshire Board spacing

On a South facing wall, I intend to install Yorkshire boarding over the 8 foot high solid wall, these boards will be about 8 feet long.

Is a 4 inch board with a 1 inch gap OK or do I need to widen the gap a bit? I have 6 inch boards and a 1 inch gap on other sheds but they are a little too hot sometimes.

We've 4" boards with a 1" gap on a South facing shed & it works fine .

Allways thought the gap was the thickness of the board.worked here for years
