The thought of perhaps another four months before some warmth really makes me struggle to get out of bed. I mean, I do get out and feed the children, smile at them and wish them a good day, but I'm sat on the sofa under three blankets now avoiding going out into the muddy yard.

Haha yup, fortunately my day job takes me to warmer and drier places otherwise I don’t think I could live here permanently

Get some cows for the winter!
You still get cold, wet, muddy, (and sh!tty) but at least you have to get up and out and do something with them every morning.
And scratching a friendly cow behind the ears after you've just bedded a pen of them down helps clear the winter blues like nothing else (y):)

10mm overnight (mostly early hours of this morning).
It's found, or made, a blocked gutter in the valley gutter over the cattle shed.

Ignore that, I was young and impetuous back then.

Everything is wet. The floors in the sheds are soaked with condensation as its mild after being cold. The hay at front of the shed is seriously wet from blown rain when normally any dampness is superficial. Still raining. It's certainly a very trying time. Tinkering and fettling in the shed. There is enough to keep me going for about a year. Trouble is, unless I decide to sell some machinery, it's not a very quick financial return on effort, valuable though it is.
