If it stays nice, I think dad is going to mark out the tramlines on the ploughed land using the crawler. Makes it easier for my to drive the sprayer / spreader when spring finally gets around.

Some spring barley going in behind sugar beet around here and a brave young man has been on some winter ploughed land also planting spring barley. If he had dug in with a spade before he went on the land he would have seen how snotty it is underneath and cold with it. I predict some yellow barley showing every wheelmark when it comes. We must be patient for the lands sake and our pockets.

I wouldn't be going on ploughed land especially if it has any clay in it.

I once direct drilled propino Spring barley direct in after stubble turnips on a light field and it did well, except in the odd sticky patch. It would do the field good to break the surface with the drill as it would allow better infiltration after the sheep poaching, but really I am in uncharted waters. The sand is packed down pretty solid but cereals don't mind consolidation up to a point. And week if wet weather on it after drilling wouldn't do it any good at all.

Still got about half a mile of ditching spoil to spread as well. Never been so far behind. At least the first lambing is done though there isn't a blade of grass. Growing well on creep though.

Ha. The water in the big drains has only just gone down enough for me to spend some days checking the outfalls! Fields with no fall have very, very deep drains!

Found a few soft spots with the sprayer. A gas pipeline and an oil pipeline don't do much to help land drainage systems. Cut right through what was a very system and left a lot of short runs which don't run out so well.

@Old McDonald There speaks a man that needs a reservoir.....

It is the next major project, but it will not be filled from the river. Underground drainage from olives and almonds will fill it. Pump back out onto the same ground in the summer, go for full moisture profile (and a little run back); keep fish in the ponded area on an aquaponics system; eat the fish and vegetables.

Well, what a wonderful spring day, British Summer Time, here we come. A good days spreading, I'm sure the OSR has doubled in size today. Everyone seems happier!

Whilst on the loader along a lane where there are lots of dog walkers and cyclists, everyone stopped to talk or passed the time of day. A Tesco delivery driver even stopped alongside for a chat, saying isn't it a pleasure to work on a day like today.

Rest of week crap really, and Easter weekend. Anyone planning to go imminently to Bali, can go with a clear conscience!

I think it rained every night with us last week only half a mm to 1mm but every morning the concrete was wet apart from yesterday and today. Last full 5 dry days was in late Jan I think.

I am not in the country so couldn't give a crap other than it making my wheat look worse. :)

Tuesday is crap again!!

According to a wunderground station a mile away we had 4mm at home which so far is a lot less than forecast so fingers crossed it stays that way, still it's 4mm we didn't need.

Anyway back to the terrible weather here [emoji23]
