I got up at 2am to check a calf had sucked after being born at 10pm and i thought i was hearing things until i stepped outside and confirmed it was raining nicely. Weather forcasters had it going east of us so glad they got it wrong
Cold northeasterly now. You could get a walking stick into the cracks in undisturbed heavy land here. Still damp underneath but moisture loss and shrinkage is considerable. Wheat not looking very happy in the baked 2” top layer. Beet up but needs a drink. Everything looks like it’s sat in the fridge.
Dry as a witches chuff here, nothing really growing, the grass looks cold and purple in colour.
Many winter corn fields round here have large patches and strips of white earth showing where it was too wet to sow or germinate in the autumn. Generally many crops look patchy and made to look worse by that horrible contrast of dark green and white that shows up the extent of barren land in a cold dry spell.
No real rain forecast for this month as far as most forecasts predict. Seems to be a trend here in too many spring seasons lately, do others get the same impression?
