Zinc seed treatment to replace Deter ??

Low level zinc deficiency more plausible:

Zn deficiency can be diagnosed from knowledge of crop symptoms, susceptible soil types and field history. Leaf analysis will confirm a deficiency and is a cheap diagnostic test compared to the cost of Zn application. Zn is deficient in cereals at less than 20mg/kg in plant tissue. Soil analysis is an excellent and a reliable guide to diagnosis or prediction of Zn deficiency.

Worth checking?

It’s all about risk management strategy, buy tolerant variety ( not going to be cheap anyway ) , then spray with pyrethroids to control aphid , use trace elements to improve crop health , biostimulants to improve crop tolerance , please buy all products from us and if yields poor then it is down to weather or pests resistance to existing chemistry. Sorry it’s not my fault
So true!!

Going back a few years, one of those mild autumns but couldn't travel with sprayer, applied zinc in spring to BYDV affected wheat. Can't say if it did any good or not, but patches remained and stunted circles remained. Yielded 3t vs 3.5t for rest of wheat that season.

I've got the t-shirt with a field of winter barley as far as BYDV goes. Less than 2t/acre when our other fields were doing well over 3.

The first thing my chiropodist wife does with verhuca patients is put them on zinc suppliments. Works best on children where they often disappear without any other treatments.

Of course, as with zinc for BYDV, there is no scientific evidence to back this up, but in practice, it works.
This is in the category of the grey area of 2 products I sell. Garlic mix for Leatherjackets wireworm CSfb slugs etc. You have to try it to see. Nobody has big shiny leaflets and massive trial results. I suggest do a few half field trials may give you a guide. Zinc has other important properties relative to ear size if applied at the correct timing.
