Do you think it's a good move? Certainly makes more sense, as long as it's fair.

No idea really , I guess it would depend on what the future holds for both conventional markets and organic . Given how volitile the conventional markets has been of late maybe it's a good thing ,look further back and the old system served well , but there was milk quota then so I nervously think it may be a change for the good

Arla are to invest £37.5 million into their factories this year from a worldwide budget of £225 million.
Muller said last year they were investing £100 million in the UK into "operational, innovation and marketing".

Nice to see investment and development in the UK market.

Glad all the Arla Farmer Members can afford this...

Rossymons you would have felt worse if Sid had said he only liked Taw Valley cheddar

Sid, do you make your own cheese? and who makes the Sainsbury's organic cheeses?
Omsco contract out the cheese making for the export market. We buy large blocks at trade price. Alvis brothers at Bristol make the sainsburys organic cheese.

Haha Einstein are you just a second account for Sid?

How do you think Muller and co reinvest in factories, marketing, new wagons etc? Do you think it might be from the profit they make out of their suppliers?

Yeah of course - And some wise investment is needed, but some of these processors have gone over the top. And others just spend it all on meetings I guess

It's like Magic, the Money just comes out of the air....

:D

As Arla members, we are reliant on the BOR to ensure that the collection and processing side is run as efficiently as possible by the management and that the return on investment will make the investment worthwhile. The one figure I would like to see is product wastage and downgrading as a % of processing turnover on a year by year comparison for all dairy processors. We could then see which was the most efficient processor but as this would be highly confidential information I guess we may be waiting rather a long time for the details to emerge.

Also, for any Arla member who would like to stand for election as a district representative, and have their voice heard on the future of the business, time is running out to put your name forward.

From the Arla Farmers website.

Are you considering standing as an elected representative or want to have your say as to who represents you within UKAF’s democratic structure?

The UKAFelection process for district roles kicks off in January and a new area of the website has been developed to manage the process. From 16 January until 10 February you can put yourself forward as a district representative. Then from 13 February until 10 March you can vote online for who you would like to represent you at district level.

If you are considering standing for a district role to guarantee that you can stand, you must sign up online.
