well I am going to try and push my s barley yield this year after reading various threads....I no longer Want to feel inadequate anymore. My 6-7 tonnes is going to have to pull out all the stops.
So I have some going in after sewage sludge 2nd cereal which was going to receive 60kgs of n in the seed bed along with the 20 from sewage sludge so total approx 80kgs,. So next step is how much when it's up to max out yield without flattening the crop.? Would normally aim for approx 130kgs in total.
Also was going to experiment with seed rates ( loads of home saved seed) planet and propino are both going in with 60 ha of each variety.
So how do you big yielders approach seed rates opt for higher seed rates?....I was going to try some on heavier dirt at 500s/m2 with a 60-70% establishment I.e. 300plants/m2 (direct drilled). Should I go much higher and aim for 400 plants or am I going to end up with chicken feed. I like higher seed rates as I feel it dilutes the n, but that's probably just in my mind.
