As an IH fan, get it sorted. That's surely cheaper and more practical than buying another tractor for the occasional tractor run and classic tractor show.

thats what i might do....but it's still quite slow as the 4wd 885 is a gear slower than the 2wd 885.....plus it's not the speed on the run but the speed to /from the runs....this one was only mile from home but they typically 5-8 miles away

Almost all tractors are capable of 25kph and yours should be about 30kph in working order. But let's assume 25kph for this exercise.

25kph, which my old MF165 could do, is 15.5mph. Let's call it 15 for convenience and to allow for uphill bits.

Assume that the next run is further than you've said, at about 10 miles away. Obviously its not going to take an hour to cover that distance. It will take 40 minutes each way, which is nothing compared to a day's silage carting.

5miles will only take 20 minutes driving each way.

If you bought a 40kph tractor, which would be 1990 build onwards, that actually had a top speed of 25mph, then your 10 miles would take nearly 25 minutes, only saving 15 minutes each way, or if 5 miles away, less than 8 minutes.

Any organiser who allows a fast modified tractor to go on their tractor run is asking for trouble as if anything happens Health and Safety would take them to the cleaners. Trailers and transport boxes with passengers should also be scrutinised carefully so as not to attract their attention.
I have lead several tractor runs and try not to go over 10mph on the road and even then some of the following tractors have trouble keeping up due to junctions and traffic etc.
Many tractor run participants do not like the large newer 40k and over tractors on the runs as they cannot see past them if they are in front and are very intimidating when they are following you on a T20. Also they make a lot of dust with their large tyres and have trouble with some of the narrower overgrown lanes causing problems.
Some organisers are segregating them whilst others are banning tractors
built after a certain year.

Passengers traveling in 3 point linkage mounted transport boxes !!!! Makes me shudder just thinking about it.....

That can be a problem. Some people think a bale of straw or a garden chair in a low sided transport box are OK on a tractor run.
Sides should be 900mm high with seats bolted through the floor to the framework and fitted with seat belts.
Likewise trailers should have a safety chain with 900mm sides and fixed seating with belts

Dexta is a very popular tractor on tractor runs. Besides readily available parts it it small and light so easily transported on a trailer and could be stored in a garage.
Also a popular tractor for vintage ploughing and if you decide to sell they are easy to sell for the above reasons.
