Sh1t summer

Well it's still a sh1t summer here. Managed to steal the second cut and whole crop yesterday/last night. Contractors had to pull an all nighter after losing three or four hours yesterday with a breakdown. Finally finished carting at 5.30am but the rain had arrived at 4. Even more rain forecast for the next week or two. Looks like it's going to be a long winter...
I thought it was only us in nireland and west of Scotland had bad weather. Weather...wet and windy nw. Dry and sunny se. ..... really does my head in. We had good spring fair June . Late July wet. Aug wet . Sept......

I think we have had it quite easy really when reading of others.. Some of you on here don't perhaps look in the dairy pages, the story of this guy in Ayrshire says it all;-

Well I've had over three hundred cows housed since mid July and only a quarter of our first cut secured. Now watching our contractor mowing his own 2nd cut silage on ground below us ,but don't know when/if he'll come here . Not before Sunday/Mondays' rain I'll wager. Our "drier" fields were done four weeks ago , and that involved leaving some endriggs uncut and others churned up.

So herd starts to be dismantled from Wednesday 6th. Beginning of the end of 150 years here.

Proud as I am of the 3 raised beds I've built this year I reckon the best thing I've done is 140' of 90/110 land drains, transformed my wee bit of swamp into an area I can walk on without waders. Just another 40' to put in to sort out the last bit that still has the odd puddle after a wet day, once that's done I reckon we'll be in for a few dry years

you can't go against the weather

we still have second cut to do partly because of the weather and partly because I haven't been able to work, weather don't look to good this week

On the verge of giving up with second cut. If the weather doesn't improve soon, will just go through with the topper on the highest setting, and try and get some tack sheep to graze it over the winter.

I got someone to put sheep on one lot of second cut where there was not as much grass but the other lot I think there is to much grass, it should have been done weeks ago but they decided it was a good time to cut me up
I may make a phone call and see what the sheep chap thinks

Its been ok here, ot very dry cold spring but could have been worse ie wet n cold, then got wet n warm but managed to get silage without any dilemma, straw all home dry never had any rain on it before or after bailng, loads of grass stock done well to be fair, odd hot day but nothing fancy id take a summer like this every year, back in the 90`s we used to get burned off terrable couldnt resseeed very well as to dry etc etc, na its been a good summer as far as im concerned.

well I cut some off ours this afternoon, working on the theory that once its cut we have to do something with it
Have you seen the forecast? A ram broke on the contractor's rake on saturday. It's still in the field and they left two short swaths that were under it. The bloody stuff has gone yellow and is rotting into the ground already. Just imagine if it was all like that! (n):((n)
