The 5 in 1 has iodine. Should be able to get them a bit cheaper than that too.....

Trouble is they would only be 6mth cover?
So to get the 12mth cover I want is going to cost abit more.
Yes it will. I used the camera choice 12 month cobalt ones for a few years but felt we were ignoring selenium and have gone back to 6 month ones twice for this year. Sheep will be in the clamp at the times of year required anyway.

My worry @exmoor dave is that 12mth is a hell of a claim for a bolus when you talk to some of 6mth makers and they say that after 5mths they've getting covered by rumen gunk and are slowing down rapidly, how do the 12mth ones keep trucking?

We've done the opposite and gone from smartrace bolus every 6 months to the 12mth mayo one, not sure if it will be the right decision yet though!
Thought process is to save 40p/ ewe and save one job,
But like you, we have the ewes in the clamp regularly so it wouldn't be any problem to go back to 6 monthly bolus.
Copper not really a problem, just concerned about the iodine

My concerns too, going to try it this year, will aim to blood test some ewes next summer to see if the bolus is still working.
I believe the boluses can get calcified,
With the smartrace bolus, its actually two boluses stuck together with paper, so they break apart in the rumen then rub against each other.

The Mayo 4 or 5-in-1 boluses are similar. Two seperate boluses (& a copper cap in the 5-in-1?) sitting in a gelatine case. The case dissolves to leave a couple of boluses that would rub against each other.
Same size as the Animax bolus (& use same gun), which is much smaller than the Smartrace, thankfully, but higher levels of TE's.
