What do you do when a Pikey drives on the yard?

Never minded old time gypos, but irish tinkers, bloody hell, scum. Dont have them in nz, dont miss them. Old genuine gypo told me. "we try to be a bit reasonable with most folk, but get a chance to stripe a farmer we grab it, never get another chance".

We live away from the farm and a monitored alarm and cctv that I can view on the pc, iPad and phone is essential for us. When either of us are alone on the farm the gate is shut, friends know the score and will open the gate, come in and close the gate behind them. I’ve had very few pikies come up the drive since the cctv signs have been up and the cameras easily seen.

Wife is a kiwi and couldn't understand the gypos when she first came here. Couldn't understand how they get away with parking up in people's fields or choose to live in caravans.

Last one that came got told we've no scrap (we hadn't) then he got nasty threatening all sorts we only got a partial number but with it and the description of the tipper transit the police knew who we were on about and we were the third ones that day to report him. They phoned the next day to let us know they'd found him. Reassuring that they were taking it seriously.

Keep a couple of old tractor batteries near the gate. Give em them and say that's all I've got at the moment they get something I get a few quid.
Got a loud barky dog too.

We have dogs running around the yard, whenever they run up to a pikey vechile I always say "just be careful the dogs can bite" in a friendly manner, they wouldn't bite a bone but it seems to make pikeys think about things

I am always polite, and say a firm "no", and that all our scrap / batteries etc are taken to local recycling place for waste transfer ticket and we are happy with the arrangement. In reality, I want them gone as more often they are not after anything - just having a snoop about. Memorise plate, and add it to the list.

Don`t often get them looking for scrap, but regularly get them wanting to tarmac the farm road which does actually need doing
I always use the same answer, if they want to tarmac it they are welcome to but don`t expect to get paid cos I`m skint
Oh and point out the 5 cameras around the yard and entrance, one of which reads number plates
