What do you do when a Pikey drives on the yard?

Had one today,brother in law was helping out and a silver 05 Mercedes ML drives on the yard.’Got any old axles boss’ was the enquirey.

BIL got the number and sent him on his way,rang 101 and later had the local plod following it up,quite impressive really.

So any extra tips?

Haven’t done it however have often thought of just blatantly and obviously videoing the vehicle and occupants.

I always make sure they see me photograph the vehicle and if they stop and put the window down I photograph them. All caught on cctv as well.

When I have come round the corner and found one in the yard, always say, ah I saw you on the camera so thought I'd better come see you.

Push the "Caravan Utilising Nomadic Traveller" back out onto the road with the telehandler.
Or just politely tell him you have no scrap or battery's or an old bulk milk tank BUT it has to be top quality stainless steel as he really needs for it water storage but real cheap.
Point him to your annoying neighbour tho as he's got plenty of everything unless it was him that recommended YOU

I always try and play the genial idiot in such circumstances, for precisely such retaliatory reasons.

Make sure they've seen at least one of the dogs. Preferably the biggest one.
Answer all enquiries with a very blunt no.
Look very intimidating, and a little bit psycho, preferably with some kind of large blunt instrument in hand.
Stop them where they are, and make sure they reverse back out the yard, not drive all the way round, having a good snoop, to turn around.

Taking a photo is a very good idea, I'll try that one, although we'v had hardly any venture on the place in daylight since I started keeping the gate closed all day.

CCTV cameras and a couple of CCTV warning signs have put them off coming here much. Still get the odd one but make a point of taking a photo and or writing down the reg number in front of them if I'm about.

we have just made our yard controlled entry - gates are default closed and you have to buzz in on intercom to get in - very un pikey friendly

I told the last one that I sold all my scrap to raise as much money as possible for cancer research as I was a "survivor" it seemed to hit a nerve and he left, I might ask the next one if he would like to donate

Generally civil and respectful, takes them by surprise.
Never a good idea to meet them with a length of scaffold tube, pick the fights you can win. I keep a handful of old knackered fence batteries about and usually say take this, it's all I have today and let them have one. Everyone leaves happy.
Keep the gates shut and prevent access in the first place is best of course.
