Winter barley all cut here..... 150 acres, 390 ton all trailers weighed out of the field, so accurate......roughly 14.5-16%
First field of Surge did 3.4t/ac, second 2.7t/ac, third field of Orwell 2.1t/ac
( that last field of Orwell was drill into wet heavy clay mush at the end of October..... We'd finished drilling everything else and had a bit of diesel and patience left and the seed in the shed so thought we'd maul it in..... Surprised it grew at all, so I spose 2.1 ton was better than a spring crop would have yielded and better than fallow)
Not happy, but under the circumstances it did as expected...... Fair bit of straw though, all baled and lead.

Quite a lot of secondaries, but a decent enough sample, 62-65 bushel

Straw:- first field did 3.5. 4'x3' big square bales/acre, Second did 1.75. 4' x 4' big square/acre. ( different baler/customer). Third poor field only 1/acre

Worrying as I've just picked Orwell over Surge for this years seed :nailbiting:

Utter garbage here.

Winter malting barley retentions are ridiculously high.

Spring barley has had the lowest yield ever.

OSR was useless- yet it’ll be my ‘best’ crop this year.

The wheat (esp second wheats) just disappeared in June/July.

The Sugar Beet is holding on...... just but I imagine it’s carrot size- if I could dig one out of the ground!

Tough year. There’s always next year.......

Same here brash land just given up.

Just a reminder of what a normal harvest looks like.
Was literally just moaning that the beans were cracking cos they were too dry.

All I can say is only ten acres left to do

Same here, mikep, but, incredibly, now just been rained off - 10mm having arrived from nowhere.

This is all good for next year's cropping opportunities - let's keep it coming

As to storage, this reduced harvest has saved us the expense of a new roof on one store and allowed us to convert another.

Love your positivity! Can you find something good about our shocking maize crop this year please? Less plastic sheeting needs buying I suppose!

shocking maize crop this year

Sorry to hear that, E_B.

Many maize crops none too good around here, in fact.

On a positive note, two or three of my friends and acquaintances run contract foraging outfits on an all-in price fixed per acre.

Their costs per acre this year being about half of the their usual, they'll be making real money at last and not being forced to trade in the forager again just to generate some kind of a profit.

Of course, they'll probably still need to trade in the forager again, this time in order to avoid quite a bit of tax.
