Wasn't far off I bet, even around here you could still buy a cottage needing work for £18k in about 1980. How much would the likes of a Roadless 118 or a County 1174 have been new?

Apparently in the early 60's my great grandfather went and bought 2 brand new 35x Masseys at once. That was off 600 pigs, 50 cows and a few thousand hens I believe. It was a lot of pigs for the time.

You could get a cottage around here for 5k in the 70’s local land agent wanted Dad and his mate to buy a street off coal board for a 3k each they now go for 150-200 .

That's pretty special

I always think folks with pre-War tractors and still in their possession have a real bit of history

My Dad grew up in Essex and saw farmworkers who were horsemen and had to learn how to repair and maintain the US war support tractors that came in, so your's at 1932 predating it is pretty unique

My great grandad bought it, my Grandad told me he ploughed a 12 acre field with it and a single furrow plough in a day when he was 12 years old. Grandad hated horses couldn’t wait to see the back of them.

It’s in our main shed so I pretty much see it every day. I couldn’t see a reason to sell it.

There’s a lot of history about here, it’s our centenary year being at this farm. But We’ve been involved in farming since the 1600’s (as far as records go back) so quite a challenge to keep up the tradition.

You should write a book or booklet to celebrate your Centenary. Get photos and memories down to paper before they get lost and you forget. A 100 years on a West Suffolk farm encompassing two wars, the 20's depression and accession to the EEC / CAP would have seen a good few changes. My employer's wife's family were Scottish and farmers that came down in the depression to farm untended farms - same in my old family town in NW Essex

My Dad bought a new Fordson Major in 1945, steel wheels, only a handbrake.belt pulley and tin pan drawbar.I have still got the seat and its spring. His next new tractor was a DB 1190 in 1982. The next new tractor was 1996.

a ford 7600 with dual power and load monitor in 1976. the load monitor was good as long as the tractor was well ballasted.
a valmet 805 in 1985 from david toppin. great engine, some other bits so so but a well liked tractor.
all other tractors 2nd hand or ex demo.
