Newark market

Think we’re all over reacting about what auctioneers get up to. I bloody know I’d rather have them in our industry because to be fair they fight our corner a fair bit to create competition. Without them I’d hate to think what would happen.
I know I’m a slight hypocrite selling some lambs and cattle dead, but we all have to agree we as an industry would be knarckered without our auctioneers and livestock markets.

Just seen Newark are going in with H&H for the pedigree sales
Funny how things happen- I had an email last week about looking into the possibility of having a breed sale in Newark now Gentry had left (which reminded me of this thread tbh). And tonight the announcement on FB.

It’s been rumoured for years that H&H have wanted a market down here, a lot of people speculated that the new Wright Marshall market at Middlewich fell through because H&H wouldn’t buy into it! So maybe this is H&H’s route into a southern market??

Good point.....don't forget the F&M days when we had no markets.
We might not like all the Auctioneers but the main of them are good for the industry......I must admit though I did smile at one of the earlier posts about the Auctioneers watch !

Seems to be the season for auctioneer partnerships/cooperation .........

......... Newark and H&H now NWA and Melton. Tom Greenhow from Melton is now selling sheep at Louth. (Next thing we know, PG will be selling cattle at Louth :woot::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:) - very unlikely, he'd have sold all the cattle they get there before they'd managed to get the first one in the ring :p:p

It's getting a bit like musical chairs

There was a bit of a tie up between Newark and H&H a few years back. IIRC it was after/during blue tongue. I think it was 'cos tups from round here couldn't go north and H&H held a sale in Newark for them:scratchhead:

There will not be enough jobs for the auctioneers before long with large numbers going on the dead and large easy to get too marts putting the smaller rural ones under extreme pressure.

Unfortunately the small marts are on a hiding to nothing imo. T9 be successful a market needs to attract enough stock for enough buyers to know they can fill a lorry or two. Once they fall below that number, they become places were dealers rule the roost, buying at whatever price they think they can get away with, to turn a profit b6 taking stock straight to an abattoir, or to another (larger) market.
When I used to frequent Worcester market in a past life, I used to see cull ewes coming in that had been bought in Stratford or Cirencester the day before (Worcester was ‘red’ every week), making £15-20/hd more for moving to a market with volume buyers in attendance.

Will Newark replace Paul Gentry? would it justify 3 auctioners now?(if they havn"t already done so)
