He has a main dealership for Fendt I think. Compass Tractors.
All his used kit is immaculately presented. Very reputable companies.
Indeed he is a decent chap alright. Has a nice collection of rare tractors all stored and in original condition. As you say he is also a major shareholder in Compass Tractors at Bridgewater. His stock is very well presented.

I told them i wanted a tradein price as my neighbour wants to buy it, off us, and had jd dealer in yard today who wants buy it back as they just around with low hours and condition
Please explain?
That post in itself explains it.
You weren't wanting to trade in. You were wanting a price to use as leverage.
Not being funny but if I was a big tractor dealer getting hundreds of enquiries a day then the ones who start doing tricks like that will inevitably get put down the queue.
Also in the time it'll take for you to decide wether to trade in, sell to jd or to the neighbor, Mr Paris could have sold the tractor 2 or 3 times over

I'm sorry hardly a trick when I'm totally honest to everyone upfront, I thought it's good of us to offer it to neighbour at what the trade would give us. I don't care how big a dealer you are if someone is prepared to spend thousand of pounds you can put an hour to them. Poor job, I have a feeling the machinery industry has lost its understanding of ag and the small margins in it.

I can tell you there are most definitely 2 sides to the story when it comes to dealers not ringing back.
Not always there isn’t. Sometimes it’s just downright laziness on the dealers reps part. I’ve suffered the same issue many times of dealers not getting back to me. Ones we’ve done business with before and ones I’ve never even been in the yards of are equally as guilty.

Yes I agree there's some awful reps out there.
Just saying it's not always the case though

It's a suprise!

i think its a 'fishing' exercise, you ring up to get a price then they give you blurb about there none in this condition for the money bla bla bal, if you see price you either think that rich or seems reasonable, if they get you on the phone they have already reeled you in to a purchase.

further up says 'weeds out the time wasters' cant really see how this is true, ive have rung poa for prices to realise it was over priced then feel a twit basically saying im not interested, but they try 'sell' it wasting more time...

This is your chance to be a price maker, not a price taker....

Many people regularly complain they cannot control their prices taken.

This should be a price you feel is fair to you and fair to your neighbor

Market moves so rapidly, if they use print media like Farmers Guide which is monthly there is likely to be a six week period they have to maintain the same price, currency could swing 10% either way and farmgate prices could move even more dramatically.

Also with trade ins and the like the price to change is the important figure not the asking.

POAs probably filter out a lot of the timewasters.

Sorry, I don’t understand your post. If a dealer has a tractor for sale in the uk, priced in gbp, what would the currency rate have to do on the price of the tractor? He has priced the tractor at a price which makes him some profit and allows for any warranty repairs in the first few months. Surely currency rate only makes it more or less attractive to the export market. Again what would farmgate prices have to do with the price? You wouldn’t be trying to say that dealers will ask for more money if farmers had made a good profit that year?

I think that's exactly what he's saying.

If, as @Hereward has suggested he doesn’t think that the trade in is not good enough then tell us!

I’m just pee'd off that he hasn’t had the decency to respond to my genuine enquiry.

I asked him to confirm if the tractor that I had seen on the website was still available, he said it was and told me the price, I didn’t laugh or cough!!

I then asked if he was willing to consider a trade in, he asked for basic details of our tractor and asked me to email him some pictures, which I did that morning.

His loss, there are other dealers!

Not his loss if he doesn't want it. Common courtesy doesn't cost though, but perhaps he has lost that through dealing with so many dishonest farmers with no scruples over the years. Before you react, you should realise that a significant but small proportion of your fellow farmers are not plain dealers. Not entirely honest when it comes to business interaction with others. There was a time I wouldn't have believed it myself but I could write a book about it now.
