My doctor now advices to make appointment for a vacuum removal as there is less risk of ear drum damage than with syringing .

You can buy a diy syringe kit off eBay. I did, and it worked.

If you want to get wax out there is a private clinic by the car park in Carmarthen. She is fantastic. No messing with oil just sucks it out . Charges around £30 .

I did and I think I did some damage! I cant be sure now, got the kit because the hearing in my left ear was dull, used the syringe thing and it got worse and now got constant tinnitus. Specialist said there was fluid behind my ear drum, which has since drained away, but left the tinnitus and dull hearing behind, at 37 years old.
Specialist said it was probably an ear infection that set it all off, but I can't help thinking the DIY ear syringe didn't help, it certainly didn't improve matters.

I shove cotton buds in mine daily to keep them clean otherwise the build up is just messy,... that said, I've just had a cold n cough ( man flu ) and now have limited hearing in my left ear..
