Elyann oats sown 11/4/19 looking ok on gravel & clay.

Just for sh*ts and giggles, here’s a picture of the other end of the same field;

I can grow blackgrass with the best of you! This was taken out of cropping last year for a pollen & nectar plot. It’s a horrid boggy clay patch that doesn’t grow anything else.

I've just returned from a cracking trip around Scotland catching up with Claydon users.

This year all of the crops in Scotland are looking well regardless of how they were sown but I was really pleased with how the Claydon users have evolved the Claydon System to work so well in their conditions, several of whom are over 7 years of Claydon drilling with no cultivation. The spring barley crops are looking particularly strong having retained the moisture and will certainly give the 'one-pass' drills a run for their money.

Are they as effective with leading disc instead of tines? Would be a bonus for us as rip up less stones? Have also read elsewhere it creates a drainage channel.

Does better with the disc replacing the tine...
Only time ours sees the tine is for beans and osr.

Can’t see any difference in the crop from that photo. How does it walk?

The no till half is a more even compare the conventional side. No till came up a week slower but has caught up in the last week. Our first go at no till so surprised with the results.

This field is part of a Thames water sensitive water catchment field lab. Trialling no till vs conventional methods along side water courses, specifically phosphorus run off

Horsch metcalfe planet with DAP down the spout. Allegedly 160kgs residual N available so didn't do any more initially, but did dribble 35kgs on the other day.

What spacing is that? Looks to be filling in nicely.

Hi Charlie. Have McGregors just removed the leading tine on that drill? It's hard to see on that photo.

Looks good, but hungry. I wouldn't expect all that residual N to be crop available - when did you test it & how much rain have you had since then? What's the target end market? 1.85N?

Mine got 150 kg/ha N as liquid split 50% on the sown seedbed & 50% pre tillering but that was after a decent yielding wheat followed by a non legume cover crop so I was expecting a SNS of 1 and little left in the soil.

Thanks, yes on contract for 1.85 so trying not to stuff it up. Agree re looking hungry. Not rained since last 35kgs went on though. Even so am tempted to give it a bit more

Drilling maize this week on irrigated ground after first cut grass, glyphosate before cutting. New middle section of the strip till converted from old 60" rotavator over winter. The wide joiner is so we can spray with 72" wheel spacing

Weaving Gd + Cambridge rolled
sb 450 seeds some gaps but due to drilling speed and a bit clumpy in places but happy enough.
no sprays other than round up Pre drilling. So far
No till I’m inn
