Had a quick trip in to Exeter this morning whilst my pick up was over the road at Toyota getting a SW upgrade...no lambs myself in but watch a few pens sold.

Not a huge number of lambs in:

43kg 66.20
39kg 60.50
48kg 75
51kg 78
44kg 72
47kg 75.80
48kg 74
43kg 64
46kg 74
47kg 72
50kg 69
44kg 70
38kg 60.50
47kg 68
47kg 79 (bloody nice char lambs )

Did not see them all sold, two main buyers not there, one of note is a buyer who buys nearly everything for export.
Jerry...on Sat a few guys reckoned that your storelambs...Exeters that is were a lot less than Sat and not as dear as the previous week..Russel was away as well I was told..

These jobs have been done by foreign workers for a while now. Pound and worry of brexit means their not there to employ. British youngsters are going to have step up and do some of these jobs.
trouble is a large proportion of british youngsters do not have the work ethic. Had a few in the past, but useless isn't the right word. I really don't know who is to blame, parents, schools, or what. Perhaps the youth unemployment throughout the EU is reflecting this as well ! But, kids today, want everything at once, and are surprised when they can't, want 9-5 hours, no weekends, and top money ! What is going to happen when the supply of foreign workers dries up, I have no idea. Where does their money come from unemployment money isn't a lot, other benefits are not easy to get, I know that from own experience, I am disabled, but being self employed, my wife works more than 16 hours a week, entitlement = £0 luckily I qualify for a PIP payment £112 week, but the 2 are separate, and pip does not influence 'social' so the young can't get much on the 'social'. Huge problem coming I expect !!

McCartneys ludlow reporting that abattoirs are not buying the amount of cattle they should because of staff shortages for jobs like boning out! I think its mostly a bulls#it excuse aimed at influencing brexit and perhaps they ought to pay higher wages imo. There will be plenty of beef farmers looking for jobs before long. Apply within!
Not BS, I'm sure. I've heard the same for plants up here and have personal knowledge of a slaughterhouse that is struggling to employ reliable staff.

On a recent visit to the cutting room at Dunbia Preston, out of sixty odd men on that shift only two were British plus most of the folk in the packing room were related or in a relationship with these men. Eighty five percent of the work force of six hundred were Eastern European

with the potential of declining Euro workers, our own medically fit unemployed workforce need to get off their butts and start working for a living.

I also agree with the above, feels like a lot of people today want everything handed to them.

With Tescos as an example bragging about their annual profits of hundreds of millions followed by another big supermarket its plain to see the profit is in the hands of the top dogs. So much for the supermarket regulator if the supply chain was looked after better the poor man picking his fruits in the fields could be payed more if the farmer was getting a fairer share that could be passed on. Until the regulator has more teeth we will see a shortage as their is a disproportionate share of the profits

I would have liked any post with prices on normally but not for that, I can see why so many geordies at Carlisle. I wonder if they are not fit enough as I noticed the buyers handling a lot more lambs than normal lately. We have housed ours at 40kg for the last few kilos as we find they handle so much better, whether it pays or not though is another matter. Certainly did today.

How many of these people are there who need to get off their butts? We are at statistically full employment and that's with 3 million (?) EU citizens.

Seen a few market lambs on the line at work today and a good few of them were pretty lean.
