Beef / Lamb & Pig Price Tracker

A few years ago I dropped my sheep wool off at Bradford....called into hawes on the way home for my dinner and they had 1 buyer!!
Yes can you remember who it was? Some of the north west auctions often had the auctioneer and Arthur Pooley. He bought thousands or tens of thousands per week. Had other men in other auctions too. He always tried to be fair. Not sure that’s where we are now at times.

No I’m afraid I can’t remember who it was now....I just remember being flabbergasted at only one buyer but it seemed to work out ok...the auctioneer and buyer just bid to a fair price and everyone seemed happy

I used to take Texel and Suffolk lambs to Ponteland. They weighed them off the wagon. Often only the auctioneer and JC there. It worked well surprisingly. Anything from 43/46kilo sold at 42 as they made more money

I dont think they are going home tbh, i think they have moved up the ladder and got better jobs. After brexit i can see africans being the next poor sods flown over to do the jobs nobody else wants. I havent seen a poor fruit farmer so perhaps they should pay more.

Boners and slaughtermen are between £10/£15 an hour, it's a fair hourly rate. The thing is other then Eastern Europeans very few British want the jobs.

Come Brexit, wages will head north, the increases in wages will be partly compensated for via a reduction in livestock prices. That's how it works, like it or not.

I was in an abattoir at 6am this morning, they just can't get staff. The majority of their line staff have moved to Germany or Norway, as a result they have removed a buyer from the marts, they can't get the stock slaughtered fast enough.
