Beef / Lamb & Pig Price Tracker

Carlisle beef breeding sale looked dear to me today. Any decent heifers and calves straight over 2k. There were plenty of the poorer types which were more buyable but not everyone’s pick. Some chancy cattle at the end including some decent incalf (or not) heifers for around £900 would either be the best or worst buy depending on what the full story was.

Can someone please tell me what Dunbia Llanybydder are paying on lambs, and do they still pay to 21.5kg?

My 12 year old boy is trying to convince his grandad to buy hoggs so he is doing a business plan and going to pitch it tomorrow to him.

Fair play to him but looking at store lamb trade normal business plans must go out of the window, hoggets make money on a rising trade which is anyone's guess.Very hard one for your grandad though who I'm sure will want to keep him keen

well he’s bought 4 and 6 tooth good ewes from me and I’d be surprised if he culled them at weaning.

He was bidding top money again today but had to be decent ewes and good lambs. Mix of ages down to 4th.

Well he certainly didn't have many to chose from today given the very small entry of couples so im not surprised he was buying younger outfits.

Store lambs didn't look as dear as Sedge last Sat.

Orphan lamb trade was off the clock thou only a dozen in!

Calve trade was diabolical @Shebb90 good native x calves £25/28 head if you were lucky enough to get a bid, strong types same comments £60/80 head and some super top end calves very little money, a cracking N/S angus bull struggled to get to £172 and a super BBx bull only made £180! ( these two calves would have been £100 head more at sedge last Sat )

Very low numbers across all rings today.

Holsworthy calves seem better on Wednesday. Got one go this week. Two weeks ago I AVE I think it was £275 for char X 30 days old was pleased with that. Holstein bulls was definitely but on Wednesday. Why demand for them picked up?

Think its common up here to offer new customers extra money per kg to try and tempt them to use different slaughterhouse.

Never been offered more ourselves!

Normally when we try another one the grades or ko% isn't as good!

Well he's keen to keep sheep and I'm keen not to be lambing at stupid o'clock (I've been through that before). He's done a grand job with rearing the calves so to keep his interest going I will do almost anything.

If he looks after these for this year and get used to the ailments they get he can have ewes next year. Start him off slowly.

The business plan is all him, but I have warned him that that could turn into a nightmare as my father has a memory of an elephant and will expect the profit he has told him?

Demand for mince is off the chart and thus why Fri steers are selling like ice creams on a summers day in the middle of a heatwave!

Normally when Fri steers sell well it means prime is on the up before long!
