Exsept was a great variety. If Extase can bump the yield up but have the same characteristics I'd grow it.
Exactly so - as we do.

Question is whether its much-hyped resistance to septoria is confined to tritici or extends to nodorum.

HGCA don't have a clue yet, but we shall have the definitive answer here within 6 weeks.

Exsept was introduced some 20 years ago, gets its quality and its standing ability from Hereward and its septoria resistance from confidential material left field.

Never got onto the Recommended List because it needs fairly early planting and NIAB trials at the time favoured the big yielding sites behind potatoes so missed out big time to Xi 19 and its clones.

But only by 3% or so.

We've grown it ever since 2001 - never goes down - big bushel - top yielder every bad year, but it's never been top in a good year.

Except

Hereward X (moulin X boxer).

I'm not old but I know moulin had a right mare one year. Boxer I know nothing about. Given the ages of all those, it's interesting to see that except gas maintained high levels of resistance .

As to septoria nodurum, it's never excited much interest in recent years - in fact the thread I put up here a few days ago has only had one reply.

But this time, if there's more rain between now and harvest, it might be quite a big factor.

Costello is a consistent wheat for us . Not too tall and always a great bushel .

We noticed some oval lesions on the lower leaves of our Extase and we weren't sure what is was.We knew it wasn't tritici as no black dots within the lesions could be found.
It seems we may have a little nodorum too.
