How do you know that straw you bought isn't sprayed off?

He doesn't and no doubt some of what he will buy at some point will have been sprayed off but then its no different given it will have had several sprays anyway yet organic farmers are still allowed to buy it/ bed their animals with conventional straw and then spread it on their organic land as muck thru the winter/ following summer.

@fieldfarmer I don't and it doesn't matter according to the EU standards BUT iknow the local guy i buy straw from and he doesn't usually "burn it off" so i do mitigate the risk as much as possible.

Try reading that document, but also don't forget that is just glyphosate, and doesn't include other wormers/antibiotics or chemicals conventional animals are treated with and the shorter withdrawal periods.

bovinevetonline.com/article/user-beware-drugs-take-longer-clear-sick-animals

"One reason cull dairy cows have higher rates of residues is that dairy cows are often culled after they become sick. Even though the withdrawal period might be observed, drug clearance from cows recovering from illness is likely slower than in healthy cows "

Per bale or per acre?
£105 WBbarley averaged at local sale, with as good a crop as any year.
Went for more than that on GTH online auction, but I don't know what crops were like. Ask him what he want for it? Buyer and seller you can not be

Edit, WB was up £15 on last year average and WW was up £11/acre

Go and lobby the associations instead of being a broken record here.

The wheat was well up on last year and much more than £11 acre on Monday nights sale and so would have been the barley.

Don't forget a lot of lots last year failed to sell even thou the reserves/ bids were very low.

Edit : Just looked at last years prices and the highest price wheat was about £66 acre other than 1 farm where they had a handful of lots and the top was £100 ish, most wheat last year was between £30/60 acre so there is no way that the average is only up £11 acre at the GTH sale on Monday night.

Im told that it was local farmer contractors who deal in straw as well as contracting who were the main drivers of trade on Monday night! they are not helping anyone!!
