Selling calves

Thinking of selling some of my calves straight off the cows this autumn. Save feeding/bedding them over the winter and free up shed space for my cows. April born so would be about 6 months old. Would you try to wean first or just whip them away the day of the sale?

We usually sell straight off mothers (March born) but gonna wean start of October and kick cows out to hill ground and calves inside for 3-4 weeks pre sale. Should give the buyers a bit more piece of mind and there eating plenty creep now so hopefully they won’t lose too much in that initial separation period.

I haven't creep feed mine as rotational grazing this year as much as I can. Anybody with any success at early weaning at grass with nose flaps or such like? Won't be as much of a shock come market day then and hopefully a bit quieter.

I thought it was illegal to take a calf off a suckler cow and put it straight into market ......this is a comment NOT a criticism as I would be tempted to sell straight off the cow if I did it .
