The "I`ve got it" thread...

A lady who works a farmers market type stall visited my elderly vulnerable mother today, much to our annoyance. Apparently this lady’s friend who runs a simllar market stall had COVID for 5 days but it “wasn’t too bad” so like a “real stoic” she kept on working serving probably hundreds of customers of all sorts of vulnerabilities.
With this sort of I’m alright Jack stupidity continuing I hold out little hope of staving off a high number of excess deaths this winter.
For god sake people, if you have got it, self isolate and don’t spread it. Think of others for once. I despair at just how thick people are, I really do.

Was the lady with Covid tested as positive?

I don’t know. She just said she had severe headache and fever for a few days. She is young. Well whoopee do. But it could put some old codger on a ventilator or worse. My lorry driver is over it after 5 days of hell he says. He was using our beet forks only a week ago. It’s fairly rife here. I reckon the official figures are about a tenth of the real rate as people who aren’t hospitalised are just carrying on regardless here.

He was. He tested positive as did his wife and his parents. Last time round I knew nobody who’s had it. This time round I know lots who have/ had it. No fatalities then fully. Just serious aches and pains, a fuzzy headache and some elderly left with thrombosis.
To be honest I don’t know what the best approach is. If it’s inevitable in the true sense of the word then let it roll, slowly. The vaccine, like the dry spell is always “next month”.

The success or failure in curtailing this virus comes down to personal responsibility to protect yourself but more importantly to protect others.
Track and trace won’t work in its own right without personal responsibility.
Here kids are still coming into school for 7 days after both parents have tested positive. “Because kids don’t spread it.”
Infection rates might plateau at a high rate but I can’t see them coming down now till we have built herd immunity.

How do you protect yourself if you have 2 kids at secondary schools?

Difficult if not impossible. As I’ve said before it’s convenient for people to keep schools open but it’s a sure fire way of spreading the virus.
A difficult political / economic choice that has consequences.
I think this present "lockdown" wont achieve much.Everything seems to be carrying on just the same. Think its just a matter of time before my wife and i get it from the kids. They are mixing with 1000 or more everyday.

My wife has been collecting the nephew and niece from the school bus stop as their parents are working. Its never as simple as the government thinks. My nieces school has now had to close anyway as so many ancillary staff are off with covid.
It's herd immunity lite as far as I can see. With all this mingling and circulation of people, track and trace is like trying to keep the tide out with a yard brush.
Encouragingly I don't know anybody who has died of it or needed to go to hospital. Its been like a bad dose of flu by all accounts I've heard. Not trivialising it, as its obviously been fatal for many poor souls, just trying to find a ray of optimism.

You have explained the situation perfectly

The approach is one of managed spread once it was decided educational institutions would remain open and operating. And for the greater good. Some deaths will occur early - in all age groups, though more likely in the over 60's, the few younger ones unfortunate, with a gamble (assessed risk) that Long Covid is not damaging. The trade off is some business failure in the hospitality sector of the economy and some effects on the broader economy. Just have to keep on the tightrope with regard to hospital facilities for those that need it. Hey ho.

Hardly heard of anybody getting covid that i know since the virus started but this week a dozen and counting have got it. Nobody needing hospital care yet and some with no symptoms at all . Local schools all seem to have some staff/kids isolating.
