Likewise I’m missing by annual road trip to the alps.....though mine is normally at Easter post lambing, so still a small touch of hope!
I think you(we) are clutching at snowflakes cant see it happening even if get a couple of jabs by then, still reckon plus £200 for the remaining f wheat in store will help us get back on track on the farm or on the mountain eventually

I could ask my Estonian mate but he always tells me everything is crap when it isn't, or I could share some slope pics to really wind you all up.

China has record maize prices

they sell stock to try to control the price of food

as they play their cards close to their chest

the next harvest needs watching
good harvest and this time next year feed wheat sub 140
or poor harvest and 180 plus if any where else has issue
eg
dry in america

or no snow in Russia/Ukraine

or drought in Europe

hopefully we all get descent yields and sensible prices to feed the world

£Per acre is more important than £ per tonne
livestock farmers do better with sensible prices
cereal farmers feel better with high yields the £ per acre is ok
low yields and high prices do no one any good

due to the virus my annual road trip to the snow covered alpine meadows means I wont be able to judge the state of the winter cereals across holland and germany ( which has stood me in good stead in the past)nor from the snow depth will be able to judge snow cover towards the urals but now nearly every city has webcam footage for what its worth kiev has no snow cover and its freezing so a possibility of winter kill nb you heard it here first
do you work for the usda ?

What is the highest anyone has sold feed wheat for in the previous 20 years ,and lowest, sheep meat must be at an historical high and beef per kg (not carcase) very close,I bet all 3 have never peaked at the same time.Sorry not to include milk ,poultry and pork

£202 feed. £237 milling are the highs. 2011 Christmas I think.

I'd like to think that £160 would become another benchmark price, like £60, then £125, as it's getting dangerously close to being a good job at that.

The market is really driving forward now, anyone with a shed full of wheat will be laughing.

The pig and poultry businesses will be suffering at the moment and there can't be much margin in those jobs with these prices.

how do you mean broiler and egg producers been on reduced production?
Egg produced for the broiler hatchery
They reduced the number of eggs so reduced the age they killed the laying birds
One site cut 6 weeks of their annual production
2 processing plants had no staff because of virus so could not kill meat chickens so they needed less chicks

If feed cost is to high then the chicken will be imported reducing the amount of feed needed in the U.K.

It's pretty grim. There was a surge in demand for eggs during the first lockdown but the retailers refused to pay more. This time round the demand hasn't increased as much, the feed costs have rocketed and we are in the traditional post Christmas sales slump anyway, and guess what, there is apparently no extra money for producers.
