Used home n dry for first time last year. What we cut under 20% worked great, over 20% less so and over 25% not that great. All seemed to feed out ok but am propcorning this year though I think I’ll try feed grade urea next year as I believe it will work more effectively at higher moistures than home n dry

Did you just mix the home n dry with the loader bucket? Did you bruise at the same time or after?

The grain would have come in at say 12% for easy maths. A 30 % increase from that would be another 4 % , so the protein is then 16% , in the case above 17%.

That makes more sense now. I misunderstood that! So what’s the advantages of this product over Home N Dry or maxammon? And how does it compare price wise?

With the barley sale price last year (& likely this:(), I reckon the finishing ration cost me about £150/t, including the minerals (+ a tenner if you’re buying in I guess). At the time a concentrate to finish them would have been £238/t, with a risk of acidosis that isn’t there with Alkagrain.

It wasn’t a hard decision, certainly if you have home grown cereals, that may well be damp.:(

Currently I’m wondering if I can strip graze (partially)standing barley...

Yes you can. Been there done it 😂

Wheat will keep well with urea on its own but it has to be left whole the enzyme is on the whole grain, if crushed it will not work. Barley worked well does not need crushing after if the moisture is high enough to start with Basildon Lowland was the man that did a lot of work on this .I crushed wheat very sticky , through a class mill with a hopper on the front .

How did you mix that?

In 2 keenans in 5 tonne batches. Someone on the forklift and someone emptying them, can mix a lot in a day.

This is the first year we have treated whole and added water to the mix and I think the end results are better. We are rolling grain that the moisture soaked right into and therefore it is rolling into a nice flake with no dust. Before we were rolling and treating at the same time and the grain was rolled first and water added up the elevator which only dampened the dry crushed grain and you still ended up with crushed powdery grain rather than a nice big flake.

Did 1000 tonne at harvest time 50/50 Harbro Maximmon and Norvite Alpha all at 25kgs urea per tonne.
